The Bridport Food Festival will be going ahead this year, although there will be changes to its format.

And the usual week-long event by the Bridport Local Food Group will be extending, running from Sunday, June 13 to Friday, June 25.

The first week will be dedicated to promoting the town's hospitality and food and drink businesses, with special menus, open days and more.

The second week will be focused on children - an afternoon of cooking and related activities is being offered to local schools.

Instead of the week culminating at Asker Meadows, when the Bridport Local Food Group joins up with the Bridport Round Table for the food and beer festival, there will be a free open-air food and drink market held on Saturday, June 19 on Millennium Green.

The festival food and drink market will run from 9am to 5pm and there will be more than 30 stallholders producing local food and drink, which will have the opportunity to showcase and sell their produce.

The Round Table will be operating a beer gazebo and the Bridport Local Food Group will be returning its popular festival tea room. There will be a large picnic area and music to entertain

Kathy Dare, chairman of Bridport Local Food Group, said: "The food festival is an important date for the town.

"Not only does it give residents and the community the chance to try and buy fantastic local food and drink, it supports our local food and drink businesses and also provides them with the opportunity to showcase their high quality, artisan produce to existing and new customers.

"We all know how drastic this last year has been for the hospitality and food industry - it is so important that we give them a platform for interacting, promoting and selling what they do."
