The Bridport Town Flag is flying at half-mast today, to mark the sad news that twice mayor of Bridport, Clifford Samways, has passed away, aged 88.

Clifford Samways was mayor in 1976 and 1991 during a 46-year term as councillor.

Clifford passed away on July 7 and his memorial service in Bridport takes place today, July 22, at 1pm at St Mary's Church. Current Mayor Cllr Ian Bark will attend on behalf of the town and the town council.

A spokesman for Bridport Town Council said: "Our thoughts are with the family today, and we offer our heartfelt thanks for your service Clifford; rest in peace."
